As is often the case with me, I was up last night in a dizzying, cleaning and organizing frenzy. I could no longer take the mess of bags with wrapping paper, pine garlands, gift tags and tissue paper spilling out all over my bedroom floor. So I quickly grabbed the baskets I bought at Ikea a couple of weeks ago and just started organizing all my crap crafts. This rapidly turned into a creative outlet and I remembered the cork roll I had bought over the weekend to make a spiffy new thing to hang my necklaces on.
Keep in mind that this project is going to be part of the BIGGER closet re-do project. For now I shall share with you my late night foray into decorating your space with your jewelry.
First I remembered that I had a rather large and very pretty picture frame stashed somewhere in the back of my closet. I had been meaning to put a picture of our family in it and hang it up in our family room.
I dug it out and a LIGHTBULB came on in my head! I was going to use this picture frame to make a jewelry display board!
Here's what you'll need:
Picture Frame (any size) I had mine already but you can easily get one at the Goodwill, Ross, etc. Just get one with a nice frame.Cork (in a roll) found at Michael's or any other craft store ($14.99)
Spray adhesive
Any Fabric
thumb tacks or picture hanger pins like these
First I took the glass (carefully) out of the frame.
I then took the backing and used it as a template to cut out my corkroll and fabric.
Then I took the spray adhesive and sprayed it liberally on the frame backing. I adhered the cork and smoothed it out. Cut out any excess from the edges.Let it sit for about 8 minutes.
Next, spray the corkboard with the adhesive. Put the fabric on the corkboard and smooth out.
Let it set for about 15 minutes before putting it back on the frame.
Trim off any excess fabric from around the square. You may need to add a big of glue here and there to make the edges stick.
Then I took the fabric board and gently put it back together into the frame. Voila! Instant Jewelry organizer. And Pretty too :)
You can make these in any size or style. Great to give away as gifts with a pretty necklace attached.
I was thinking that if you don't get the cork roll you can easily use a piece of thin styrofoam board to attach to the picture frame backing. Just make sure you're able to put it together.
So there you have it. Pretty.Simple. Organized.
I then ran with this idea and cleared off all the stuff from my dresser and propped it up all fancy next to my dollar store hurricanes. I added some more necklaces to the hurricanes and even used my little elephant figurine to hold my rings! You can use simple things around your house to organize your jewelry. I will be putting this all in my closet. I can't wait to show you how it's all going to come together.
Happy Crafting :)
I am linking my project up to the following blog parties:
Gorgeous frame and fabric! Isn't it great to see you jewelry and use it as decor? I made one of these last year and am loving it.
ReplyDeleteI made a similar jewelry oranizer for earrings, just using window screening as the background. It would be great to have a matching set of these - one for necklaces and bracelets, and one for earrings.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute! I loveeeee that fabric. Great way to stay organized :)
ReplyDeletePS: I'm doing my first ever giveaway on my blog and I'd love if you'd come enter! Check it out: http://mygirlishwhims.blogspot.com/2011/02/my-first-giveaway-and-introducing-your.html
