For many years, I fondly remember running around after my brother and sister and breaking a confetti filled "cascaron" over their heads at Easter. It is a fun tradition in Mexico to gather up the empty egg shells, wash them out and let them dry in preparation for Easter. This is a tradition I am fondly passing on to my children. Our cascarones {egg shells} are sitting on our kitchen counter waiting to be decorated. After they are painted, they are filled with confetti and sealed off with a small piece of paper. On Easter day, we play games, such as "cascaron hunting" where we try to gather as many cascarones as possible in our baskets. Then we divide ourselves into teams and run around chasing each other to break them over our heads. The trick for it not to hurt , is to break them slightly in your hand as you pour the confetti over your "victim". It's lots of fun and I love to relive the fond memories it brings to me of my childhood in South Texas...
