Pinterest Love and Project Follow Through

I think I have mentioned before how much I obsess  love Pinterest. I am one of those people that actually will go ahead and try a craft just to prove to myself that I am not wasting time by pinning projects, ideas and dreams up on those darned boards!
Well, a few weeks ago I dragged my husband into this obsession....err....love.
He, like me, loves DIY projects. And a good challenge.
So when I showed him this:

And I asked if he could make it for me his reply was "Piece of cake"
You see, we recently inherited this humongous TV.
Not that we're complaining, but we needed a place to put it.
And I have loved the whole workbench, industrial, Restoration Hardware look since I saw it on that blog.
Sure, she got it for $50 {what a steal!!} but I knew we could get it for around that same price ourselves by purchasing the wood.
So the hubster and I trekked on over to the Home Depot to buy some pine wood.
The untreated kind.
Some bolts and screws and some casters.
Total price around $80. Not bad considering it's a pretty big
workbench and it's super SOLID!
We already had the stain.
Here's what we bought:
12  -  2X4's
3     -    1X6X6
4 casters
nuts and bolts

I wasn't there when he actually built it and he didn't take pics, but he told me how he made it and it does take some skill to hollow out that piece right there on the leg to stick the other board thru, but all in all a pretty simple project according to him.

It beats paying hundreds or even thousands at Restoration Hardware type stores. And here's "our" version ;)

Now I am imagining a beautiful farmhouse table...hmmm
the possibilities!

What has Pinterest inspired you to make?

Patty

  4. Coming over from Tatertots & Jello. I love this look and it turned out amazing! My husband and I have recently gotten into making furniture too and this week I linked up a DIY couch we made. http://littlegreenbow.com/2012/01/the-perfect-fit-diy-couch/ I find it so rewarding to make things instead of buying them. Great job!

  5. Found ya at Tatertots & Jello....LOVE what you have done. I'm going to show it to my Dad---he's always trying new things like this out! He's building my sis & I chunky monkey farmhouse tables right now, out of old barnboard off of some of my Grandpa's land. It's going to be a special thing...just like this TV stand is! Gorgeous! A giant pat on the back to your husband.

  11. Hi love this bench you made from the original inspiration. I have been obsessing over that original bench myself and am in the process of getting my husband to make me one. I know you said it is 6 feet by 24 in wide but can you tell me how much space is in between the side legs and how much over hang you have on the front and sides? Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks ...Angie
