I'm a girly girl with ruffles {No Sew Purse}

So you've heard me sing the praises of the Mighty Mendit glue right?
I heart this adhesive. It's better than the glue gun and you don't get burned.
Anyway, a few days ago, I went to Hobby Lobby (yes I should have my own cash register and bed in that store since I'm in there so much) and I bought some beautiful ruffled lace!! They had it on sale for 30% off so why WOULDN'T I buy it??
I scratched my head and wondered what I could use it for.
And the other night as I was sorting thru some crap in my closet and putting them into more piles to give away, I came across this:

I have soooo many reusable shopping bags I thought, gosh one more. What can I do with sooo many?
Well a light bulb went off and I made this!

Here's how you can make your own and you don't even have to sew!
I took some ready-made ruffled lace that I had on hand. I simply laid them on the canvas bag where I wanted them. I then took my Mighty Mendit adhesive and put down a bead/line of glue across the bag. I then took my ruffle and laid it on the glue and pressed for a few seconds. Now here's why I love this glue vs. the hot glue: IT'S NOT HOT!! I won't burn my hands while crafting. Now you can use whatever you have on hand but I tell you, once you use this adhesive you won't go back to the hot glue gun!
So I continued around, gluing and pressing until I went all the way around the bag and came back to my starting point. I cut off the end and glued to the beginning strip.
I then alternated between the two ruffles in a pattern. I left the green part of the bag exposed to add a little bit of contrast.
Now you can do this with ready made ruffles like me, or you can use some scrap fabric and make your ruffles first. I have so many of these bags in different sizes that I am going to make some more out of scrap fabric. I am making myself a smaller one for my scriptures :)
To add a little bit of pizzazz I made another quick felt flower from green felt and yellow. Then I just added a little button. I pinned it to the bag so that I can alternate with different flowers and pins and have a different look from Spring to Fall.
So there you have it. Easy and fun. You can do this with your girls, for a church activity, you name it. Just start collecting those free canvas totes :)
Have a great week everyone!

  1. What a great idea! I'm thinking maybe some teacher gifts? I don't know. The possibilities are endless!
