Summer=Friends and Fun

This past weekend our good friend Tonya invited us over to a cookout and swimming at her beautiful home. I tell ya this girl's backyard is like a resort! The kids had fun swimming and eating and just relaxing and chatting. It was a beautiful sunny day and she also invited another family from our church. It's just wonderful to make new friends.
Tonya is a really funny and unique lady (HA) she keeps me laughing with her views on life and her lighthearted views of the world. I like her because she keeps it REAL. We also had fun playing with her new dog Carson-who, as I tell Tonya should have his own show!!

Sergio and I decided that at our next house we will definitely have a pool. In Texas a pool is a must.
Oh, I also got a much needed haircut and I feel tons lighter!!
Sergio picked out a new haircolor for me that I absolutely love!! He has such good taste :)

After the fun at Tonya's we went to see Toy Story 3. It was delightful. We went to the late show which our boys saw as a treat. They got to be out late :)
Summer is going so far so good. It's nice to have good friends (with pools ;))

Summer and Swimming

What's summertime without swimming? As a child we loved to go to the pool or just splash around in my back yard across the sprinklers or play under the water "arc" my mom made with the hose spray :)

So on Saturday morning I packed up the boys and headed to the neighborhood pool. This neighborhood pool is pretty snazzy. It's got a splash pad and sand! Aaron likes to play in the sand and build "cities". This time we took Josh's friend Alex. I just  relaxed under a tree and later joined Aaron in his "city building".
It's a nice way to relax.

It gets a little hot in Texas. It got up to 100 degrees on this day (yikes) but we like to get to the pool right when they open.
Afterwards, we went home and took our showers. We celebrated Father's Day on Saturday since Sunday is the Sabbath for us. We took Sergio to one of his favorite eateries in Dallas-Shuck N'Jive.
They serve some of the best blackened chicken Po Boys we've ever had. I had the blackened chicken pasta without the chicken :D
Josh tried their burger and declared this his new favorite place to eat! All the food is yummy and even better if you love seafood (we don't-crazy huh?)

Aaron's burger was as big as his face! :-0

Sergio loves fried pickles!
Have you noticed that this family is REALLY into FOOD! You'd think with all the food we talk about we would each weigh 300lbs!!
Anyways, it's nice to indulge once in a while.
After eating we gave Sergio his gifts. The boys and I got him a card and some snacks (again food :))
Ellison got him a DVD of one of his favorite movies Shawshank Redemption and some ice cream (food again)
Then on Sunday, the Actual Father's Day, we just relaxed and watched movies after church and the boys and I like to play board games. Their favorite is Monopoly.
Sergio is not much for board games so he usually watches TV while we play and Ellison is now too cool to hang out with her little brothers so she is usually upstairs drawing.

Earlier in the week Aaron wanted to get a new pet. He had a spotted gecko that Sergio had caught outside but he was looking kinda sickly and we let him go. Aaron cried and cried so I promised him a new one from the pet store. BIG MISTAKE.
I learned that those darned reptiles need a lot of care and supplies to survive! I told him maybe we can just get you some fish. So we ended up getting a couple of tiger barbs and a little 5 gallon aquarium.

Now I am super busy trying to figure out the care of fish! Aggh. What have I gotten myself into?? Maybe I can eat something to help me think......

Summertime=Ice Cream Dripping down your arm

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to heading out to Braum's for some ice cream?
I had this great idea and me and the boys headed down there. I was craving some REALLY bad. And since I have gone vegetarian (not vegan anymore) I could spoil myself in this luxury this one time.
What is Braum's you ask? Weeeelllll let me tell you my northern friends (and those of you too lame to not have a Braum's in your town hee hee) It is THE BEST ICE CREAM EVER!!
'Till I moved to the Dallas area I had never heard of Braum's. It was such a treat to finally get to try some some 22 years ago when Sergio got a job there while in college. It was the BEST JOB EVER SINCE WE GOT FREE ICE CREAM :))

But wait there's more! They also have a little restaurant where they serve some of the best burgers and chicken sandwiches (especially the grilled chicken sandwich with jalapenos)
So if you are ever in the area stop by and enjoy some. My favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip.
Aaron always gets a cup because with it being 150 degrees outside it's sure to be a mess.
Once we got our cones we went outside and enjoyed them.
Notice Josh's ice cream is already running down his arm ;)

Sergio always gets a double scoop in a waffle cone. He is an ice cream fiend. We sometimes race each other to see who can finish their ice cream first (and beat a brain freeze) and he ALWAYS wins!!

Earlier that same morning we went to get Ellison a hair cut and while she was at the beauty salon Aaron and I went next door to the little dollar store in our neighborhood. I love dollar stores!! Now, the true $ stores not the ones that have items priced all the way to $10!! That to me is not a dollar store.
Soooo this little dollar store is right next to the Albertson's and is really cute. They have lots of little things for a dollar and Aaron and I decided to kill some time there.
They have everything for parties, from tablecloths to gift bags. I told Aaron he could choose some drawing stuff. He loves to draw. I have to upload his most recent "still life" it's really cute. So anyways, here's some pics of the dollar store, check it out if you're in the area and help support our local merchants

Hmmmmm...maybe some colored pencils...
Walls of cool stuff like party favors

Gift bags of every size!

And Snoopy and the Peanuts gang always bring a smile to my face :)
I may have to go back and buy some of these.
What treasures are in your neighborhood?
What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Is there a local ice cream joint you'd like to brag about?

I'm bored without my brother

This is what I hear from Aaron everyday. Poor little guy loves his big brother SO much but he is away at Scout Camp all week. Aaron sits bored for hours without his pal.
So tonight I decided we were going to the mall. This kid loves to window shop (just like his dad) I had heard that the mall had a new LEGO store and we went to check it out. He had so much fun playing with all the pieces and ooohhhhing and aaaahhing at the Star Wars models and I promised him some of those for his birthday and Christmas.
He picked out a really cool Airplane set and we joined their VIP club. I know we'll be back. After, we headed over to Auntie Anne's pretzels, Sergio's favorite. No trip to the mall would be complete without him getting his two pretzels. I passed this time.
But I told them that since they had their favorites, now it was time for me to drool over some pretty things too. While they sat and ate their pretzels and drank their cokes I sauntered into ---POTTERY BARN!! I.Love.This.Place.
I had seen a few things I've been pining for in their catalog and I wanted to take a look in person. Here's a few things I will be going back for:
That huge jug is absolutely gorgeous!! It's $89 though so it has a bit of an ouch factor for me and my wallet. But look at all the other smaller jugs and candle holders. To Die FOR!!

I have been looking for some metal milk cans and I finally found them!!
I SO want these! I think the medium one is $14. I have to have three of them though and the large one is around $28. Again, ouch!!when added up. But wouldn't they look cute on top of some kitchen cabinets with greenery spilling out from underneath them?

Glass!! Look at the HUGE and beautiful
glass container. Couldn't you picture it filled with colorful pebbles, soaps or sand and a starfish?? I must go back.
(these pics were taken with my phone so the resolution isn't that great)
I am so ready to decorate my home with more summery stuff like starfish, seashells, tin buckets, hydrangeas etc. I know PB has frequent sales so I will be back.

Next we went to Williams Sonoma. Another guilty pleasure. I love kitchen gadgets. I also love to bake and am married to a gourmet cook so we can get into a LOT of trouble in that store. Thank goodness I went in alone ;p
Well after all was said and done, I did not buy anything (patting self on back) but I did go across the hall to GODIVA and bought myself my guilty pleasure: 2 dark chocolate raspberry bars. And when the guy asked if I was a member of their chocolate club I said "Chocolate CLUB? Sign me up!" And so he did and I got a free chocolate truffle.
So as I type this my little guy is quietly entertained putting his LEGO airplane together and I have a mouthfull of chocolate. Can life get any better than this?

Summertime=Graduation Time!

The day is finally here: Graduation Day for my sweetheart Ellison :)
It took every ounce of strength for me to get up and go to her commencement because earlier in the week I contracted STREP!!! AGGHHH!! I kept praying that I'd get better by Friday because I wasn't going to miss this for the world!
So Tuesday night I started to feel very weak and shaky. I don't know how I made it home from work that night but I got to my bed and collapsed. Two hours later I woke up with jagged glass in my throat! Or so I thought. I kept thinking I'll call the Dr. in the morning. But a little voice inside my head (don't you love that little voice?) said go to the Urgent Care Clinic NOW! So I stumbled out of bed and told Sergio to take me (don't you love it even more when you actually follow that little voice inside your head?)
So after a quick examination the DR. says it's not the flu (thank the LORD) but he says "You have Strep". The room starts to spin and I let out a whimper. By this time I am so weak I am almost passing out from the pain. I check out and now it's close to 10 p.m. so we have to find a 24 hr. pharmacy that isn't packed (yeah good luck with that)
We finally get one and we sit in the car outside waiting for 30 minutes to get my scripts.
I am so weak I can't even walk into the store. We finally get my meds and I get home and take them and pass out.
Thank goodness I went that night b/c I would not have made it to Friday if I had waited one more day. Those precious few hours made a world of difference. Oh and a big shout out to the guy/girl who invented the cough/decongestant/narcotic liquid I was prescribed. Thank goodness for that tonic!! It helped me sleep and aleviated the excrutiating pain I was in :(   See kids Narcotics are good for you when prescribed for an actual AILMENT and not for recreation >:/
Soooooo...come Friday I was a little stronger but excited to see my little KitKat graduate. We took a quick pic outside while Sergio was still inside getting ready.

ooops notice how my hair is in my mouth
but Ellison looks gorgeous as usual

With her brothers too :)

One with Parke (you can tell it's very sunny out)

I wanted a full length one and Aaron kept running around in the background and here he just stopped to look at ants and well...he's in the pic :)

There were over 600 students in her graduation class YIKES

Grads getting ready to go up to the stage and get diplomas

The graduate after the ceremony surrounded by family

With her Uncle Tony who brought her roses how thoughtful (since we forgot)

The next day we had a cookout at a local park that has a splash pad. Here's Aaron getting ready to run through the water.

Sergio looking at the fire behind him

That cool water really looked inviting and I really wanted to run through it once or twice but I was too busy swatting the million flies we attracted. Uggh...who invented flies and what purpose do they serve? None absolutely none, except annoying the heck of people that are trying to celebrate a GRADUATION!!
Ok, rant over.

Hee hee, I love taking candid shots of people ;) Here's Ellison and Parke ready to put the sausages on the grill.

All in all it was a great day! I had the stamina to get through the day and it wasn't hot at all underneath all those huge trees even though it was 101 degrees in the Dallas area YIKES!!
Welcome Summer!
