Puerto Rico Family Vacation
So many things have transpired since I last blogged here, but I'll share all that with you all in the next post.
This post is all about our amazing trip to San Juan and Rincon, Puerto Rico. I had been on the fence about where to go for our family vacation, thinking that going to Isla Mujeres in Mexico would be a great idea, then figuring it would take too long to get our passports in time for our trip, we finally decided on Puerto Rico!
It is a short 5 hour flight from DFW and we could only find non-stop flights on Frontier. I was a bit leery of booking our flights with Frontier since I've heard horror stories, but we bit the bullet and booked the flights. I gotta say, the entire process was seamless! No issues whatsoever. I had plenty of leg room, we paid extra to board first and choose our seats. We did check a bag and we had no problems with that either. I guess it pays off to read and re-read all their website to make sure we check in on the app, ensure the bags all will fit their parameters, etc. :)
Soooo, another first was that we had never booked a STR (short term rental) such as AirBnB or VRBO. We always choose hotels. However, I went out of my comfort zone and booked three AirBnB. The first one was in Condado, then Rincon and last, Carolina (close to the airport for one night).
Let me tell you, we did NOT want to come back home! It was absolutely beautiful. I fell in love with the island, the people, the way of life, everything. Here are some photos from our trip.
SAN JUAN (CONDADO AREA)
Our Condo had beautiful panoramic views of the lagoon.
While in Old San Juan we visited El Morro
We walked the streets of Old San Juan with its beautiful Spanish architecture and cobblestone streets along with quaint shops and plazas, we loved it all!
We ate such good food, but I have to admit I am not a fan of plantains or mofongo!
I tried it and did not like it. We did, however, had some great food at these restaurants in Condado. I even tried swordfish! We ate at Cayo Blanco, Chloe's, and Ola Oceanfront at the Vanderbilt. The Ola restaurant is beautiful and right by the water.
Here's a quick pic my son and I took at Chloe's patio:
After our fantastic time at San Juan, my sweet husband drove us to the town of Rincon, on the west side of the island. The drive was about 2.5 hours and scenic and wonderful.
We stayed at a fantastic 3/2.5 home steps from the beach and quaint little restaurants.
This home has an outdoor shower y'all! It also has a lap pool and all the comforts of home. You can view it here:
We had a late lunch at a quaint Italian place Capriccio Trattoria in Rincon. The food was delicious.
We walked to the beautiful beach and the water was calm and clear. I woke up early the next couple of days to go and meditate on the sand. I got to meet some cute ladies that go there and do their water aerobics each morning. I also saw a group of scuba divers going out for a dive early one morning. I even made a furry friend, a pup jumped off the paddle board he was on and tackled me on the beach! He was a cutie.
While in Rincon, we went to a panaderia called La Rincoena. We bought quesitos (cheese filled bread, dusted with sugar...mmmmm)
The boys got some sandwiches cubanos to go and they were quite yummy.
Steps away from our rental, was a super cute brunch and coffee/gelato place called
Wabbles
We had so much fun in Rincon. We did some shopping at a local souvenir shop where I made sure to pick up some local coffee.
Last night in Rincon. Beautiful sunsets.
Until next time,
xoxo
