My First Pillow and I Don't Even Sew :)

As is often the case with me, one night, when I couldn't sleep, I got a surge of creativity. I wanted to draw on something. I remembered that I had bought some of these on my last foray into HB:

Then I remembered I had some white burlap and lace. :)
I went and got a piece of burlap, laid it out on the floor and carefully cut out a rectangle. I decided I was going to make my first little pillow.
I didn't want to sew it so I took out my go-to adhesive Mighty Mend it :-D
After cutting the piece to size, I placed a piece of paper between the two pieces of fabric.
(when I cut the fabric I had folded it in half to not have to "sew" one side)
I wanted to draw some flowers on the fabric and I knew it was going to be a little tough to draw on burlap but I took the plunge nonetheless.
I simply drew and filled in my design a few inches away from the edge because I knew I'd have to "sew" around it and the design would be hidden.
This is what I came up with:

After glueing it err...sewing it wrong side out....I then pressed and held each side for a few minutes to set the adhesive leaving a 2-3 inch opening to stuff the pillow. I then carefully turned it right side out and smoothed it out on the floor. Then I took some ruffled lace and glued that all the way around.
Doesn't the lace add a bit of romance?
I then stuffed it with pillow stuffing and sealed up the opening I had left for this purpose.

I love the fusion of different textures-rough with dainty, classy with scruffy :)

Easy, inexpensive and fun.
P.S. You are supposed to heat set the markers but I didn't. Why? Because it was 1 a.m. and I was very sleepy by the time all was said and done. I am going to make another one and heat set it.
I still don't know where I am going to put this little gem, since I live in a house full of men ;)

  1. What a great idea! I love the ease of the fabric markers. I'm going to try them with my kids.
