Hey I think I live with this kid!

Lately I've been passing time by reading this: I had originally bought this book for Aaron since we have to work on his reading "fluency". He was diagnosed with a reading disability by the doctors at Scottish Rite Hospital. That place is just phenomenal and the staff there is great. They recommended that Aaron read more and gave us all types of materials and ideas on how to get him to read more fluently. So anyways, I was at the place I hate the most-Walmart-and happened to walk by the display of books. The cover and yellow color immediately caught my eye. I opened up the book and flipped through some pages and found myself laughing hysterically out loud right there in the store. The greeter just gave me a blank stare. I decided to buy this book for Aaron. When I brought it home, Josh immediately took it from the bag and exclaimed "YESS!! This is the next one in the series!" So apparently these are popular books. Josh said this guy has a whole series of them. So...

Working from home Alpine Access

Lately I've been getting a lot of questions on the name of the company I used to work for when I worked from home. The company's name is Alpine Access and it's essentially a place that big companies such as Office Depot, 1-800-Flowers, and others contract with to do their phone service, such as customer service, order taking, etc. These are INBOUND calls, they call you, no telemarketing. I was on the Office Depot National Desk center. This is for BIG time customers, like Fortune 500 companies that use OD as their office supplier. It was a great company. Don't expect to get paid more than $9 per hour and you have to meet their technical requirements, such as a land line phone, specific headset (which I found on ebay), high speed internet, not SATELLITE, a pc that meets their specs and a VERY quiet environment. You have to go through some rigourous paid training and just to get hired you have to undergo a background check including criminal and credit check. You also have...

FAMILY NIGHT

Last night was Family Night or as we LDS people refer to it-Family Home Evening. We are instructed to have one night a week, specifically Monday, in which we read our scriptures, teach a lesson, play a game or do something together as a family. We sometimes do this on Sundays but I have to get back into the groove and do it Mondays again. We used to do this "religiously" (no pun intended) when I first joined the LDS church 6 1/2 years ago, but as life happens we've been slacking off. Well I decided it's time to get back into the game. Literally. So after cooking a yummy alfredo pasta dinner, I took the kids into the study to read from the book of Ether in the Book of Mormon. This year we decided to read the Book of Mormon backwards since we always start it and never get to finish it!! Our mission is to read it from cover to cover all this year. After reading a few chapters we went into the dining room to play with our new game: This is such a fun game that kids of all...

Movies, movies, movies!

So have you figured out we are HUGE movie buffs at my house yet?? I love watching movies. Good, clean, movies. Dramas, comedies, family, foreign, documentaries, action, horror, suspense....as long as they are well written then I call them good. Although I do like some really goofy ones too. Last weekend Sergio and I went to see this movie: And although Sergio loved it, I did not. I found myself pretty bored at the story line. You could figure certain things out right from the beginning. I won't post any spoilers but the R rating is mostly for violence and gore. Lots and lots of gore. Now I am not squeamish by any means, but this type of gut exploding gore seemed quite gratuitous. I was disappointed by the ending. I recommend this instead: It has some of my favorite actors like Nicholson, Pfeiffer and the always weasly James Spader. The story line is better and it's just good overall. Also during this past week, I saw M. Night Shyamalan's "Signs" again with Aaron. ...

Slacker

I really have been slacking on the blogging thing...but the thing is I have been SO busy looking at other's blogs. I have found a new favorite http://pixdaus.com/ Oh MY GOSH....I could be on there FOREVER!! So much eye candy, and I mean that in a good way. I love looking at the beautiful colors of nature. It sure beats the ho-hum pale yellow of my office wall that I am forced to stare at every day!! It also helps to brighten up my day since it has been really cold here lately with more than a foot of snow a couple of weeks ago. So enjoy the link! and tell me what you think.

YUMMY APPLE EMPANADAS

Lately I have been baking a lot of these yummy empanadas stuffed with apple! My family and my coworkers clamor for them. So here is the recipe, so you too can bake some of these yummy delicacies at home: Ingredients: 4 apples peeled and cored ( I use 2 apples) 1 tbsp. cornstarch 1 tsp cinnamon (I use more :D) 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tbsp butter 1 package refrigerated pie dough 1 egg beaten and set aside 1 brush 1 Tupperware empanada maker (this is SO helpful, I don't think they sell them anymore but you may be able to find it on ebay) Extra sugar and cinnamon in a little pinch bowl to sprinkle on empanadas Wash, peel and slice apples. Put them into food processor or chopper along with sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon. Chop until coarsely chopped. Melt butter over medium heat then lower heat and add the mixture. Cook until soft. Allow to cool slightly. In the meantime, you should have the pie dough on the counter to warm up to slight room temp (you don't want...

I don't like the new TVs

For some reason I am really starting to dislike these new rectangular shaped TVs. You know the ones we have been FORCED to buy! I prefer the old fashioned squared ones. I am down to one of those in my house. My last one, a big screen one from the late 90's just went kapoot ((sniff, sniff)) and it would cost too much to replace the part that blew up. :( So we are looking to replace it with another big screen tv, but we have to choose one of the flat panel ones that I so dislike. Why the hard feelings you ask? Well with the old fashioned ones the picture fit in neatly, it wasn't s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out like this and the stupid black bars on top and bottom that some shows and DVDs come with make the picture even teenier. So there I said it I HATE THE NEW TV'S!!!!!! JUST CALL ME AN OLD FASHIONED RETRO SQUARE KIND OF GIRL .
