Happy Fall y'all
Although it feels anything but fallish here in Texas
I woke up today feeling crafty! Which is quite the feat since I've been in a rut lately. Anyone else?
We recently moved into a new place kind of out in the country. It's been a bit stressful and after a couple of weeks of (mostly) unpacking everything, I finally felt the urge to decorate the kitchen a little. I am going for a nice, clean, botanical look.
I decided to not decorate for fall and leave things clean to give me a better idea on how I wanted the kitchen to set up.
This gave me a blank slate to see what color themes I would like to go with.
I chose a botanical theme with lots of soft greens and black for a nice contrast.
The kitchen is already white and I have plenty of framed art, vases and florals/greenery to play with.
I started off with my inspiration - the top of my fridge!
I had that Hello, Love art in my bedroom before we moved here and the vase is from Target. The greenery I bought off Amazon. When I saw this on the top of the fridge, a light bulb went off!

Now onto the roman shade
I mostly used items I had on hand such as:
*high temp glue gun
*fabric scissors
*iron
*measuring tape
*ruler
plus items I bought
*2 yards of fabric
*1 poster board
and I wish I had
exacto knife
white fabric to line the back
you can also use no sew tape to make this
I first removed the plastic valance from the blinds. I used this as a template to cut my poster board and fabric
I measured the poster board and found myself short a few inches width wise. So I pieced together two pieces of foam board with duct tape to make it wide enough to fit my window
Then I measured how long I wanted the roman shade to hang. I wanted it a little bit less than half down from the top of the window.
Next, I ironed the entire piece of fabric to make it nice and crisp.
I then folded in about 1 inch from each side of the fabric to make a nice crisp hem.
I ironed it to make it easier to hot glue.
I then played around with the folds of the shade and how wide I wanted each fold. I made sure to iron the folds where I wanted so they could hang better.
I then looped a pieced of fabric and glued it to make the fold stay. I repeated the hot glue straight across the under side of the fold.
So you decide how many folds and hot wide you want them. There is no right or wrong way.
I decided for mine to look like this:
It took me about 3 hours from start to finish because I am unable to cut a straight line and I had dull knives to trim down the poster board. I really like how it turned out and it cost me about $10 for the fabric and poster board at Hobby Lobby.
Here is one of my many inspo pics

I also posted the video on Instagram under the same @
I plan to put a liner on the back of the shade pretty soon to make it less transparent
