Date Night-French Cooking Class

Date Night-French Cooking Class

Happy weekend everyone! We were busy kicking off my birthday weekend! Woohoo!!
And even though I am getting older, I like to go out and celebrate in style!
My husband and I made a promise to go out every month and try out fun things together.
Last month, we went to a Murder Mystery Theatre Dinner.
I'll tell  you guys about that at a later time.

Yesterday we went to a French cooking class in Dallas at Sur La Table.

The meal we prepared was ratatouille, a French torte and a raspberry souffle.
As part of the class, you receive a 10% discount on any purchase.
You can bet I took advantage of that :)
Anywho, both  my husband and I were impressed with the layout of the kitchen, the chef and the meal itself.
You can BYOB (we forgot :/) and you will work in a team of 4.
However, our table only had the two of us as the other pair cancelled at the last minute.
The chef explains everything step by step and underneath your table you have trays with all the ingredients you will need to prepare each item

(these are the trays they were setting up for the class after ours)

The first food item we worked on was the French torte. We were taught how to correctly dice an onion, tomatoes, how to sautee, etc.
It was so yummy!
Next, we started with the raspberry puree and making the souffle.
We were taught about making a meringue and how the egg whites need to stiffen, but not too much in order for it to rise correctly in the oven.
After we poured the raspberry mixture into the ramekins, they went into the oven.
In the meantime, we were chopping up veggies for the ratatouille.
We had to act fast as we were falling behind because we were missing two people!

Raspberry Souffle

The nice couple that was next to us decided to step in an help.
The nice lady folded our raspberry mixture while we continued to chop.
We learned how to butterfly a chicken breast, sautee it a bit on the hot pan with olive oil and butter (butter makes everything better)
Then the chef took our chicken breasts and put them in the oven with a bit of chicken stock.
MMMMMM....all of it tasted heavenly and we can not wait to go back and take another class (or maybe the same one) with our sons.

All in all, a delightful time at Sur La Table.
