Thankful Thursdays {A Teacher's Heart}

Source As Summer comes to a close and the new school year is just around the bend I start to think more and more about  the people who have shaped me into who I am today: teachers Besides my grandma and mom, I've had some of the most wonderful teachers ever! But a particular one always, always comes into my mind at very odd moments in my life. Source   Moments, such as when I asked my Autistic son's kindergarten teacher if he had friends, then she showed me a picture of him surrounded by his buddies all smiling. My biggest worry was that my little guy (now my Big Guy) wouldn't be able to make friends because of his "quirkiness". But this kind teacher assured me he did. And best of all she loved him. Truly loved him. As I left her classroom with tears in my eyes, I sat in my car for a moment and when I looked up there was her class, exiting the cafeteria on their way to recess. My son, was the line leader that day, and he was holding hands and skipping all th...

Transformation Tuesdays {Laundry Room Update}

About a year ago I showed you this And how I used a dropcloth to create extra storage space But what I failed to show you is this I added just a few small things such as the colorful tablecloth some flowers, vintage prints on the wall and a mirror on this side of the room And added some cute glass containers on top of my dryer .   The vintage prints are here to serve as of how to wash clothes properly :) they were obtained from the bhg.com website. I simply took some dollar store frames and painted them green and added the prints. Now I am saving up for a divided hamper that I saw at target to complete my laundry re-do. For a full look at this transformation you can go HERE  and HERE So with a little imagination and some paint you too can transform a boring room in your house :) Glass canisters were bought at Walmart Tablecloth was bought at Target The vintage prints can be found here: Vintage Prints

Super Saturday #2 {We Are Movie Buffs}

We are movie buffs there's not a better place for us to be than So today we decided to go to our favorite spot and see and it was AWESOME! We woke up early to get the early bird price and even though we were running a little late we still got in just in time not to miss the beginning. I have loved the Planet of the Apes story since childhood. I watched it as a very young girl in Mexico and I fell in love with the apes! My father noticed how much I loved the movie that he bought me a Planet of the Apes lunchbox. I took it with me to kindergarten and I thought I was sooo cool :) After the movie we all went out for pizza at our favorite cheap pizza joint - Cici's Pizza. Feeling exhausted already, we went home to relax for a bit and get my energy back for the piece de resistance- BOWLING!! My little guy loves, loves, loves bowling! So when we annouced that's what was in the plan for tonight he jumped for joy. So off we went, late in the evening when the sun was about to set a...

Summer Boredom Busters

With the kids going back to school soon we won't have to rely on these as much anymore but I thought I'd list some of the things we do to keep boredom at bay during the summer months Now, granted, my kids are far apart in age so I had to come up with some things suitable for an 8 year old and a 13 year old Here are our top picks: *Outdoor Fun-Watergun Fights The boys get their water guns and try to kill "the alien" (me) while I try to shoot at them with the hose's super duper nozzle!! They hide behind boxes, trees, the porch. I have to hit them first before they hit me. The catch, I can't move from my spot!! If I do hit one of them, they have to stand in that spot until the next round and be the alien! *Board game week-pick and play a different board game every night of the week Monopoly games last all week!! We love Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictureka, *Learn new card games This one is lots of fun as I teach my boys to play the same card games my ...

Thankful Thursdays #2-A Mother's Courage

I don't think I've mentioned before how thankful I am for a good mom. {mom and I --Northern Mexico c.1970 she is 18 years old} Sure she's not perfect, who is anyway, but she's the perfect mom for me Here's why I think my mom is the best: *She has never, ever judged me not even when I have made the stupidest decisions or made dumb mistakes she's never said "I told you so" *She's always been my biggest cheerleader There's nothing her kid can't or couldn't do! *Growing up I can't remember once hearing her complain *she sits for hours listening to me ramble on and on about this or that *she is one of the most courageous women I have ever known {my birthday party-Mexico-my grandma's house} Background: My mom was born in Mexico to (poor) US Citizen parents She grew up there, studied there, married there and had us two kids there Later on she got divorced from my dad and decided she wanted to move to America and give ...

Wednesday's Finds #2

Welcome to Wednesday Finds #2 It seems like just yesterday I did my first post Don't you hate it when time goes by fast? Especially when you're having the time of your life? It is that way for me especially now that the kids are going back to school in a few weeks. I don't like it one bit. I'm one of those moms who actually enjoys being around her kids :) Call me crazy. Here's what I found today: Modernish Buffet $70 This looks promising. It's rather modernish looking. I really like it. Dresser $50 Another find that would look lovely painted in black or a dark paint color. This goes along well with my modern theme today :) leather sofa $200 obo This looks like a nice leather sofa. Perfect for an apartment. I would offer less though maybe start at $125. That would be a deal! And guess what I found for only $45! Cricut Die Cutter $45 This would be a great buy if you are just starting out scrapbooking. I have the bigger one and I love it! Also, I am lo...

Transformation Tuesdays #1 Chest of Drawers

There are so many reasons to celebrate Over the past few months I have learned to celebrate the little things in life Whether it's a new haircut New outfit Shed poundage New job New boyfriend  let's find a reason to say "hurray" I have created Transformation Tuesdays just for this purpose You can link up anything you wish to share with us and we'll celebrate with you! It can be a much needed room rearrangement repurposing an old something or other or something I've listed or not listed above. Here's my Transformation Tuesday contribution  sanded down This is an old chest of drawers that was literally tossed to the curb My hubby saw quite a potential in it and we are now using it in our big guy's room total cost $60  for paint, knobs and fabric   Paint is Behr brand "beluga" in semi gloss. He used less than a quart. It's a brownish black. It looks a little glare-y because the paint was not fully dry. Love the detail on this pie...
