Getting Ready for Camp - Camp Huawni

I love summer trips. Yesterday I talked a bit about our trip to Austin and the simple and fun things we got to do. And last night I got to thinking that the most fun I've had is  when I am just doing simple things.  Not having to spend lots of money on outings, just kinda hanging out with friends. Either at a cookout, neighborhood block party,  or watching the kids run around. That last one is a bit hard to do, running around. What with living in a suburb and all the crazies out there, parents are usually paranoid (and rightfully so) to let their kids run around outside playing like we used to do.  This is why, when the opportunity to send my child away to camp for the summer, I considered it.  I have to admit that I was a bit nervous at first to send my soon to be 10 y.o. son away for two weeks! I've never sent him away before. EVER!!! But the more I talked about it with other parents and people in general that had gone to summer cam...

Gearing Up for Camp and Weekend Wrap Up

Well Happy Monday to all!! My weekend was filled with fun as I was asked to shoot an event this past Saturday. I had the pleasure of being the photographer at a Blue and Gold Banquet for a local Boy Scout pack. I tell you they had SUCH cute ideas on table decor I had to snap away! I'll be posting them soon so you can get some ideas in case you're in charge of Scouts ;) So anywho, this Spring we are all getting geared up for Summer. This year is going to be a wonderful year. I am determined it will be SO much different than last year. No more brain hemorrhages for me!! No sirree Bob! It's all about fun.  First off, like I've mentioned before, we are sending our boys off to camps this Summer.  It's the first time for both to be away at sleep-over camps and they are REALLY excited! Me....not so much :( But I digress. It's not about me, right? So here's a list of 7 reasons to send your kid away to camp: 1.      G...

Getting Ready and Excited for Summer Camp

Well we are getting even more excited that we have two kids going off to camp this summer!  Granted, our big guy is going to Texas A&M on an academic scholarship to study robotics and he is only 14! Yikes! So we are busy planning our routes since we will have to drop off and pick up to boys from camps that are about 4 hours away from each other :-0 We are very proud of our big guy :) He took the SAT test at the age of 13 and scored higher than most high school students. Yeah. That's something to be proud of. On the other hand, the little guy is going away to Camp Huawni for fun!! Some R&R and to make new friends :) We are very excited for him as well. We feel it will be a great experience and also this will help lessen the loneliness he'll likely feel away from his brother for 4 weeks. {We remember last year when his big bro was only away for a week, this little guy was not a happy.camper.literally. :(} So anyway, lots of preparation, forms to f...

Going Away!! { For Fun }

A big part of growing up is learning to go away from your parents. I remember when I was about 9 years old I was sent to California on a cross country trip to stay with my great grandparents. It was scary yet fun. I got to travel on a plane by myself for the very first time. I remember landing at LAX and getting scared because I didn't see anybody I recognized. Then finally feeling relieved when I saw my sweet grandparents. I remember the feeling of being alone and in charge. I made some new friends on the plane and in California too. Nowadays, we as parents have to be a little too over-protective sometimes of our little ones and with good reason. But lately I've had some things on my mind in regards to sending my little guy to camp this summer. First because I always wished I had that opportunity as a child and second because I think it would be a great time for him!  He's been to Twilight Camp last year but it's a daily ca...
