Hello to all my sweet friends! Can you believe the summer is almost over> Well, here in Texas it's still in the 100's so it's going to be summer for a long time still.
Have I mentioned how much I hate the heat?
Well, I hate the heat.
But I love the lazy days. Having the kids stay up late playing scrabble with me, sleeping in late and enjoying a nice
breakfast and having funny conversations, will now be replaced by hurried evenings and hurried mornings.
:(
But life goes on, right? And speaking of life, my daughter is doing great with her fiancee and my beautiful little granddaughter in their new apartment.
As part of a gift to them, I bought them a nice kitchen table and some vintage wooden chairs.
My plan was to revive them with Annie Sloan Chalk paint then do some light distressing.
The kitchen table had a pretty bad paint job. There were several coats of horrible yellow paint on it.
My hubby stripped the top of it and decided to stain it.

My hubby stained it in this beautiful stain and even drew a band around the edge!
It looks gorgeous in person!
Next I was going to be working on the table base.
Here is the before (turned upside down) and below is the after:
As you can see I painted it Old Ochre and did some light distressing. I had the paint already on hand so the paint cost me nothing. The table was $40. The most time consuming part is the distressing.
The chairs are vintage and they took a little more work. I enlisted the aid of two handsome guys :)
Here they are almost done. We had to put two coats of the paint, but, I tell you that Annie Sloan Chalk Paint goes a long way!!

What's awesome about the paint (can you tell I love it?)
is that it hardly has any smell to it so I could do the painting inside my house. Forget me doing any kind of work outside. The paint would not stick, it's so hot!
So after letting it sit for a few days I went back and applied a clear coat of Minwax. I use the one for "blond wood". After that sat for about a day, I came back and distressed the edges and other random places.
I used 120 grit sandpaper. I tell you the sanding took the most time. I had to put down a huge tarp to catch the dust.
After sanding I used, CeCe Caldwell brand "antiquing cream". It's a dark wax that goes on very well.
I left it on for 24 hours then came back and buffed it with an old clean t-shirt.
I'm dying to try the Maison Blanche brand of dark wax but that line is so hard to find here in my area. I finally discovered that a shop carries it so I'll be trying it next.
I really wanted a darker wax, but this brand is not that dark.
All in all I am pleased at the result.
I can't wait to show it to you all set up at my daughter's house.
I still have two more chairs to go.
The chairs cost me $60. So for $100 she got a "new" cute table and chair set for her apartment.
Not bad, huh?
I'm also busy designing my son's homeschooling classroom/craft room for mom :)
It's going to be great!
